PSUT First in “Fire Fighter” Universities Robotics Competition

Princess Sumaya University for Technology came first in the 3rd edition of the “Fire Fighter” robotics competition for universities. The event, organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs in cooperation with the IEEE and RAS clubs and sponsored by Orange Jordan, saw the participation of 26 teams from 7 universities and was attended by the President of the Arab Robotics and AI Association, Mr. Ismail Yasein.

PSUT’s victorious team included students Anas Erekat, Muhammad Doula, Lafi Odeh, and Ahmed Al-Omari, competing as “Double Face”. The “Warriors” came second, with the “AMB” team from the Hashemite University in third. The “PSUT Demons” and “The Phantoms”, teams comprising of Abdul Rahman Abu Zahra, Hamza Abu Sir, Abdul Rahman Al Hammouri, and Jana Falah, won first and third places for Best Strategy and Programming.

The aim of the competition is to build students’ skills in programming and designing robots in a series of rounds that simulate firefighting operations. Competitors evacuate property and rescue civilians to a deadline, after which the winning teams are identified.

PSUT’s Acting President, Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, congratulated the winners and their supervisors, praising a victory that confirms the university’s excellence and leadership. She affirmed the support of students’ participation in all activities and competitions that hone their academic and practical skills and open up new horizons of knowledge.

Orange Jordan’s Chief Corporate Communication and Sustainability Officer, Engineer Rana Al-Dababneh, indicated that the company’s support for the competition stems from its efforts as a leading and responsible digital provider and its keenness to promote the values of innovation, teamwork, leadership, and competition. She highlighted the strategic partnership between Orange and PSUT to enable young people with digital skills to gain training for employment.

According to the contest supervisor, Dean of King Abdullah II School of Engineering, Dr. Esam AlQaralleh, PSUT’s mission is not simply to convey information and data to students, but also to focus on their talents and motivate them to keep pace with the skills in demand in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era.

Teams from PSUT's ARC came first in the "Portal: Firefighting" competition in 2019, and last year took 2nd and 3rd in the Jordanian Universities' Student Robot Competition, which was organized by the Jordanian Engineers Association.
