Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, honored the top three teams at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Amman Collegiate Programming Contest. The two-day contest was hosted by the university in collaboration with the ACM Programming Club at the university and the Jordanian Programmers Association. The contest was held in Amman and brought together 74 teams from 14 Jordanian universities.
The PSUT team clinched first place, while two teams from the University of Jordan took second and third.
The two-day event began with a trial round to help participants get familiar with the judging system. The official five-hour contest was held on the second day, where student teams worked to solve 14 programming and algorithmic problems. Rankings were based on the number of correct solutions and how quickly each team submitted them.
Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, President of the University, expressed pride in hosting this major programming event, highlighting its role in promoting creativity, technical excellence, and strengthening students’ skills in analytical thinking and teamwork. She praised the students’ strong performance and the professional organization of the contest.
Abu Elhaija also said that the university provided full technical and logistical support, including modern labs, advanced equipment, and streamlined processes to ensure the event’s success.
Prof. Ashraf Ahmad, regional competition chair, gave a brief overview of the contest’s history, noting that it began in 1970 at Baylor University in Texas under the name “Battle of the Minds.” He mentioned that the university hosted the national rounds in 2011 and 2012, and the regional round in 2012.
Prof. Ashraf also explained that the contest helps students qualify to take part in regional and international contests like the ACPC and ICPC. It also builds a strong tech community and improves students’ problem-solving skills.
