Fourth AI-Ability Training Camp for School Students Concludes at Princess Sumaya University for Technology

The fourth AI-Ability Training Camp for School Students concluded at Princess Sumaya University for Technology. Organized by King Hussein School of Computing Sciences, the camp spanned two days and attracted the participation of 1,000 students from 200 schools across Jordan.

This year’s camp featured the “AI Around Us” workshop, which introduced students to basic AI concepts and encouraged the responsible and ethical use of AI tools.

It also included the “AI Sparks: The Future in Young Minds” hackathon, which gave students a space to develop their AI skills, boost creativity, and turn their ideas into projects that serve the community.

University President Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija said the AI-Ability initiative is the first of its kind in Jordan, introducing school students to data science and artificial intelligence. It supports national priorities, UN sustainable development goals, and the university’s strategic plans.

Dr. Firas Al-Ghanem, Dean of King Hussein School of Computing Sciences, explained that the program targeted students in grades 8 to 12 from public and private schools, with some younger students also taking part. It aimed to involve the local community in learning and sharing knowledge. Volunteers from the university took part in organizing the activities and delivering the workshops. The program also helped student participants build skills in communication, volunteer work, and social responsibility.

Dr. Bushra Hajjawi, founder of the initiative, said that since its launch in 2021, the initiative has continued to promote basic knowledge and practical skills in AI and data science among school students in Jordan. She also noted that the initiative has so far trained more than 2,000 students in AI and data science.

At the closing ceremony attended by Dr. Ghanem, Dean of King Hussein School of Computing Sciences, Dr. Osama Abu Sharkh, Dean of King Abdullah II School of Engineering, several professors, and participating school representatives, the winning teams were honored. Sponsors were also honored, including Bank of Jordan as the platinum sponsor, Orange Jordan as the telecom sponsor, Quill as the gold sponsor, Siren Analytics as the silver sponsor, along with ISO Education School and Araby AI.
