Princess Sumaya University for Technology Wins First Place in the African-Arab Software Championship ACPCS Seniors 2022

Princess Sumaya University for Technology team won first place in the African Arab Championship for Software and Systematic Solution Methods for university students in the category of advanced applicants ACPC 2022 in its twenty-fifth session which was held in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh, with the participation of 145 teams of university students from 25 Arab and African countries selected from 3,775 teams who participated in the semi-final qualification.

 The university team consisted of Assem Tuffaha, Muhammad Kilani, and Ahmed Hamouda, and was supervised by the Dean of the King Hussein School of Computing Sciences, Dr. Ashraf Ahmed.

The Acting President of the University, Dr. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, communicated the congratulations of HRH Princess Sumaya bint Al Hassan, Chair of the University's Board of Trustees, to the winning team and its supervisor for this great achievement.

Her Highness expressed her pride in this achievement which reflects the university's superiority and leadership at the local and regional levels, and the efficiency of PSUT’s programs that refine students' scientific and practical skills, stimulate their spirit of competition, and work as one team to achieve a high position in all fields, including international programming competitions of all kinds and levels. Her Highness appreciated the students’ efforts and their relentless pursuit to improve their scientific and practical skills.

Dr. Ashraf Ahmed said that the idea of the competition is based on developing students' abilities to use systematic solution methods and computer algorithms to solve industrial problems by writing codes and design programs to reach the best condition in the fastest way, shortest possible time and least amount of computer memory.

Each participating team consisted of 3 students and a coach, where the students work collectively to solve the highest number of issues in the least possible time. Each team had a PC device for the whole competition period which lasted for 5 incessant hours.

The championship, which was launched last Friday, under the patronage of the Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mustafa Madbouly and the Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Abu Al-Gheit, aims to develop the skills of creativity, innovation, and teamwork, which test the competitors’ abilities to work under pressure in allotted time by preparing possible strategic. solutions.

It is noteworthy that the university is the champion of the MENA region in the International Programming Competition of World University Students (ICPC 2021) which was held in Moscow. The university team also qualified for the International Programming Competition (ICPC 2022) this year in the Bengali capital, Dhaka, without going through the regional competition because of the team’s excellence and programming abilities, hence making it the sixth qualification for the university in the field.
