Princess Sumaya University for Technology welcomed Mr. Martin Gastal, the CMS experimental area manager, and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) Advisor for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. In an interactive lecture, he highlighted CERN and discussed its work, summer programs, job opportunities, and research collaboration in nuclear engineering, information technology, physical sciences, and mechanical engineering.
The students actively discussed the organization's research, training, and job opportunities with the guest. CERN, founded in 1952 in Switzerland and with 23 member states, is the world's largest particle physics research organization. It provides essential infrastructure, including particle accelerators, for advancing particle physics research and gaining insights into the nature of matter.
Following the lecture, University President Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija and Vice President for Administrative Affairs Prof. Bassam Hammo met with Mr. Gastal. The discussion aimed to strengthen collaboration in academic and research fields, fostering opportunities for joint training and research development. A number of the university deans and expert professors were also present during the meeting.
Notably, Amal Saif, a PhD student in the computer science program at Princess Sumaya University for Technology, was awarded a scholarship from the Sharing Knowledge Foundation. This allowed her to spend a full year in the organization’s laboratories.
