The President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, announced the launch of the 17th edition of Global Entrepreneurship Week, organized by the university’s Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship in strategic partnership with the Zain Innovation Platform (ZINC). The activities, held both virtually and in person, will run until the 23rd of this month.
Prof. Abu Elhaija emphasized that entrepreneurship is one of the core pillars of the university’s identity and academic mission. She noted that this approach has been embodied since the establishment of the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship in 2004, which serves as the university’s entrepreneurial arm and leads an integrated ecosystem aimed at advancing the climate of innovation and entrepreneurship in Jordan.
She added that since 2009, the center has overseen the organization and hosting of Global Entrepreneurship Week in Jordan, positioning itself as the national umbrella that brings together entrepreneurs in a major national and international event celebrating creativity and entrepreneurial work. This comes under the guidance and continuous support of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, President of the Royal Scientific Society and Chair of PSUT’s Board of Trustees, whose vision continues to serve as a beacon for excellence, global recognition, and the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Speaking during a press conference held on campus, Prof. Abu Elhaija explained that the university adopts a comprehensive academic and strategic vision strongly connected to applied innovation and labor-market needs. It seeks to instill a culture of initiative among students and researchers by linking them with national and international companies and institutions, strengthening cooperation between the academic and economic sectors.
She highlighted that this direction is reinforced through applied curricula and innovative graduation projects, alongside specialized competitions, mentorship programs, investor networks, and technological and research partnerships that enable students to turn their ideas into projects and start-ups. The university has launched several notable initiatives, including the Venture Lab and the Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) Program, both designed to boost innovation among students and faculty and support them in transforming ideas into practical, scalable ventures.
For his part, the Director of the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship, Mr. Mohammad Obaidat, stated that this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week features 104 activities and events with the participation of local and international entities from the private, non-profit, and public sectors, with geographic coverage extending to 59 cities across Jordan’s governorates.
Mr. Obaidat added that the week’s activities focus on key themes including ecosystems, education, inclusion, and entrepreneurial policies. The program features lectures, workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities aimed at expanding professional connections in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director for Media, Communication, Innovation and Sustainability Management at Zain Jordan, Tareq Albitar, expressed the company’s pride in its ongoing strategic partnership with the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship at PSUT in launching Global Entrepreneurship Week. He noted that this major global event is eagerly anticipated every year by youth, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders in the entrepreneurship ecosystem worldwide, serving as a platform to discover new creative ideas.
Mr. Albitar affirmed Zain’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote a culture of innovation and strengthen Jordan’s entrepreneurial environment. He noted that the Zain Innovation Platform (ZINC) will host a series of training sessions and workshops throughout the week at its branches across the kingdom, covering key topics such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, entrepreneurship, user-experience design, digital transformation, and personal and entrepreneurial branding. These activities align with market trends and the needs of the digital economy, helping to empower young people, develop their skills, and support them in transforming their ideas into successful entrepreneurial ventures.
