A team from Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) won the third place in the Huawei Cloud Developer Competition in its first edition, organized by Huawei International in the Middle East, with the participation of 74 teams from 9 countries.
The competition aims to use cloud computing and artificial intelligence techniques to develop systems with high accuracy.
Supervised by Dr. Ammar Odeh, the winning team included Rakan Armoush, Youssef Hamdan, and Amr Raed who developed a system for tracking celestial bodies and a mechanism for dealing with objects in outer space. The judges valued the high accuracy of the project design and the use of artificial intelligence techniques on the Huawei Cloud system.
The President of the University, Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, congratulated the winning team and their supervisor for the honorable results they achieved in the world, stressing the contribution of these competitions as they raise the students’ competencies, introduce them to the latest versions of cloud computing and artificial intelligence, and provide them with teamwork skills. This will, in turn, enable them to enter the labor market as specialists in the field of artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
The Dean of the King Hussein School of Computing Sciences, Dr. Ashraf Ahmed, appreciated the winning students’ efforts and perseverance that made them best represent Jordan in international forums. Dr. Ahmed pinpointed that the competition represented a new challenge as it falls within the field of artificial intelligence and data science, and that winning it puts the university in its rightful place.
It is worth noting that the competition contests lasted for a whole month as the participating teams sent the competing applications to the arbitration committees.
