The King Hussein School for Computing Sciences team at Princess Sumaya University for Technology won the first place in the world in the EY Open Science Data Challenge competition, which was organized by Ernst and Young with wide participation from various universities worldwide.
The winning university team included students from the Data Science Department: Rakan Armoush, and Joud Massoud.
PSUT president Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija congratulated the winning students for their outstanding performance and the impressive results they achieved at the global level. Abu Elhaija appreciated PSUT keenness on the presence of its students in international competitions in which they achieve first and advanced positions. She added that this reflects the interdependence between the study programs and the practical skills that the students possess and how that positively impacts the university and its students.
Dean of the King Hussein School of Computing Sciences, Dr. Ashraf Ahmed, thanked the students and professors for working hard and closely to follow all developments in the data and programming sector.
Dr. Ashraf Ahmed indicated that the students built an artificial intelligence system to identify areas planted with certain crops through satellite images, with the aim of combating food poverty and desertification.
