HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, presided over the graduation of the 31st class at Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT). The five-day celebration was attended by the university’s leadership, faculty, families of graduates, and guests from the El Hassan Science City family of organisations.
Opening the ceremony with a moment of silence for the victims of the war on Gaza, HRH expressed solidarity with the families and praised their courage and resilience. She also announced ten scholarships for students from Gaza, five for undergraduates and five for postgraduates, continuing the Hashemite commitment to supporting the Palestinian people.
“The situation in Gaza today reflects a profound loss of human security,” Princess Sumaya said. “Entire generations are denied basic rights, including education.”
She stressed that science and technology must always advance together. “Science without technology risks remaining an idea, and technology without science risks becoming blind. But together they can transform lives, societies, and nations. Science is about human dignity. It improves lives, protects the vulnerable, and builds resilience. It is the truest investment in peace, replacing despair with hope, division with cooperation, and destruction with renewal. And when the guns fall silent, it is scientists, engineers, teachers, and doctors who rebuild societies.”
Addressing the graduates, she urged them to embrace the challenges of climate change, global conflict, and artificial intelligence with courage and creativity. “Do not fear these forces,” she told them. “Harness them in service of humanity. Write history not as victims of change but as leaders of it.” She also highlighted the importance of science diplomacy as a common language to rebuild trust in a divided world.
PSUT President Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija highlighted the university’s achievements, including renewed international accreditations, Jordan’s first micro-credentials system, a new master’s programme in Technology Management and Policy, and the region’s first Cybersecurity Operations Education Centre. Princess Sumaya also honoured outstanding graduates and faculty, and in a poignant moment, presented a degree certificate to the family of the late student Michel Ramzi Al Koor.
