Princess Sumaya University for Technology clinched the third spot worldwide in the HackDay global competition for cybersecurity. The event, which saw the participation of twenty-five teams worldwide, featured a range of practical challenges spanning encryption, forensic research, and reverse engineering across various difficulty levels. Held in Paris, France, the competition lasted for 24 consecutive hours.
The university team made it to the final competition among 25 teams worldwide after passing through qualifiers. Initially, they were among 120 teams, and the qualifying rounds, spanning remotely over a month, led to their selection.
The university team secured third place, with the first and second places won by teams from French universities. The winning team comprised Hamza Omar Noor, Basil Ammar Hussam Aldeen, Ziad Saad Al-Sharif, and Ali Ibrahim Khalil from Princess Sumaya University for Technology, along with Hashim Alsalhi and Ayoub Khasawneh from Jordan University of Science and Technology, under the supervision of Dr. Haitham Al-Ani and Dr. Mohammad Ababna from Princess Sumaya University for Technology.
HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, extended congratulations to the winning team and their supervisors for their outstanding achievement. She expressed her enduring pride in the university’s students and professors, who consistently showcase advanced skills in cybersecurity and its requirements.
The University President, Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija, commended the students and their supervisors for their efforts spanning a month during the competition. Abu Elhaija praised their excellence in the university's leading specializations, aligned with global technological advancements.
The supervisor of the winning team, Dr. Haitham Al-Ani, highlighted that the team successfully tackled a significant number of challenges. He emphasized the university administration's commitment to developing students' skills and providing continuous support, reflecting the institution's dedication to delivering high-quality education and training.
It is worth noting that this global competition specializes only in the field of cybersecurity.
