Two teams from King Abdullah II School of Engineering at Princess Sumaya University for Technology jointly won the first place in the IEEE Empower a Billion Lives International Award, with wide participation from various countries around the world. The competition was held in Orlando, Florida, in the United States of America. The first team was headed by Prof. Fadi Shahrouri, and the second team by Dr. Majd Batarsah.
During the competition, which aims to find innovative solutions to save energy, the qualified teams made presentations about their projects before committees of specialized world experts.
Her Highness Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of the University's Board of Trustees, congratulated the two winning teams, appreciating this achievement and the high position that the university has achieved at the global level. Her Highness also valued the efforts of the professors and their continuous pursuit to achieve excellence and leadership.
For her part, PSUT president, Prof Wejdan Abu Elhaija, also appreciated this global achievement, mentioning that the two winning teams are the only teams nominated from Jordan and the Arab world in the finals.
Dr. Abu Elhaija valued the efforts and team work of the PSUT professors stressing that the university is keen to have links with international research centers so as to benefit from their experiences, as this positively affects PSUT students and professors.
The Dean of the King Abdullah II School of Engineering, Dr. Essam Al-Qaralla, also praised the excellence of the school professors who continue to closely follow all developments in the disciplines offered by the school.
It is worth noting that the committee in charge of selecting projects highly appreciated the two winning projects due to their distinctive ideas and promising future. The committee also expressed great admiration for the fact that the two teams come from the same university.
