The Two Students Lillian Al-Jamal and Lara Boyajian from Princess Sumaya University for Technology Achieve First Place Globally in the 2025 Amazon University Collaboration Competition (AWS)
Two students from the King Talal School of Business Technology at Princess Sumaya University for Technology — Lillian Al-Jamal (Business Information Technology) and Lara Boyajian (Business Administration) — achieved first place globally as part of an international team in the “Pathfinder Generative AI” competition under the Amazon Web Services (AWS) University Engagement Program – Cohort 2025. This international competition brings together students from multiple universities around the world and includes three main tracks: Software Engineering, Product Management, and Machine Learning.
Participating in this year’s competition were 900 students and 200 mentors from 14 countries: Albania, Kosovo, Lebanon, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Belgium, Spain, Poland, Jordan, France, Romania, Malta, and Kazakhstan.
The winning team — which included five students from different countries and was supervised by Amazon — presented its innovative project titled “PlayMap.” It is a cloud-based web platform powered by artificial intelligence that aims to transform educational materials into mind maps and interactive educational games using large language models (LLMs).
The project stood out for being a fully integrated practical application, not just an idea or conceptual proposal. It received praise from the judging panel for its technical comprehensiveness and its integration across software engineering, product management, and machine learning.
University President Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija stated that what the university’s students have achieved is a true embodiment of excellence and distinction, as they managed to secure first place in their very first participation in such global competitions. This reflects the quality of education at the university and its ability to compete among major global companies and platforms, in line with the university’s vision of preparing future technology leaders and innovators.
It is worth noting that this competition is held annually over the course of nine weeks under the direct supervision of Amazon Web Services. The process begins with registration, followed by an intensive training camp, and concludes with the announcement of results every October.
This competition is considered a leading global platform aimed at developing students’ skills in software engineering, project management, and artificial intelligence through practical, real-world experiences that promote cross-cultural collaboration and connect academic education with industrial innovation.
