Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) was crowned champion of the Arab Artificial Intelligence Olympiad for the third consecutive year, winning the title at the competition’s fifth edition, held at Alamein International University in the Arab Republic of Egypt. The event brought together 124 students representing six Arab countries, who competed through 85 projects and participation in technical marathons. This achievement further strengthens PSUT’s standing in artificial intelligence and innovation across the Arab region.
PSUT’s victory followed its students’ first-place finish at the Local Artificial Intelligence Olympiad, which qualified them to compete at the Arab level. The students went on to earn the highest scores and secure top positions, culminating in PSUT retaining the championship title for the third consecutive year.
The competition was organized by the Robotics Technology and Gifted Care Association, in cooperation with the Arab Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Association, Techno Future Foundation, and Jordan’s STEAM Center, under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship.
PSUT students participated in several specialized technical field categories and challenges. Prof. Belal Sbabaha supervised the students competing in the Embedded Systems category: Abdulkarim Damisi and Ghaith Abboud, along with Hassan Al-Hasnawi and Mahmoud Abu Qutaish. Dr. Samer Sawalha supervised the students participating in the Computer Vision and Machine Learning categories, Yousef Rabie and Mutaz younis. Abdullah Barakat competed in the Programming category, while Abdullah Al-Ja’ar and Homam almansi participated in the Cybersecurity category. Engineer Ahmad Awwad served as the overall coordinator and supervisor of PSUT team across all competition categories.
PSUT President Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija stated that winning the title for the third consecutive year is a source of pride and reflects the advanced level its students have attained in emerging technologies, as well as their ability to translate academic knowledge into innovative applications and projects capable of competing at regional and international levels. She further commended the efforts of the students and academic and administrative supervisors, noting that the achievement demonstrates the integration of academic and training efforts, strengthens the presence of young Jordanian talent in Arab competitions, and confirms their ability to excel in one of the technology sectors with the greatest impact on the future of development and the digital economy.
She added that the achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of PSUT’s educational approach, which integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application. This approach embodies the vision of Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of PSUT’s Board of Trustees, to strengthen analytical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, enabling students to keep pace with rapid advances in artificial intelligence and contribute to applying these technologies in service of society and the national economy.
Prof. Abu Elhaija also noted that PSUT places considerable emphasis on providing an educational environment that fosters innovation, research, and development, while supporting students’ participation in specialized scientific competitions and platforms. This commitment stems from the university’s belief that investing in young talent and building digital capabilities are fundamental to preparing national talent capable of helping shape the technological future.
The Arab Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (Arab AI Olympiad – AIO) is an educational competition for Arab students that follows the standards of the Arab Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Association. It aims to identify young Arab talent in artificial intelligence, computer science, and cybersecurity, while empowering students to apply their 21st-century knowledge and skills to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges in their communities.
