Princess Sumaya University for Technology, in collaboration with the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO), hosted the annual meeting of the ISO/TC 204 Committee of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). This committee is responsible for the overall system and infrastructure aspects of intelligent transport systems (ITS). The meeting highlights the university’s ongoing role in supporting global efforts in innovation and technology. JSMO is a full ISO member and takes part in several of its international technical committees.
The five-day meeting brought together more than 150 experts from 19 countries, with over 80 attending in person in Amman. Representatives from PSUT, JSMO, and the Royal Scientific Society were also present. This strong international turnout shows the global community’s trust in Jordan’s ability to host important events and highlights the country’s growing role in the future of smart transportation. The meeting is one of the key technical events on ISO’s agenda, helping shape standards for designing, operating, and managing modern transport systems.
University President Prof. Wejdan Abu Elhaija said that Jordan hosting this event shows its strong commitment to the organization’s goals and its ongoing investment in smart infrastructure.
She added that scientific research is a key part of PSUT’s progress. Prof. Abu Elhaija emphasized that the university supports innovation through research and practical projects, following the guidance of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees.
Prof. Abu Elhaija said the university looks forward to strengthening ties with global institutions. She hopes this will open new opportunities for cooperation, support the exchange of knowledge and expertise, and promote innovation and progress in various fields to build a sustainable future for both local and global communities.
In her closing remarks, delivered on behalf of the Director General of the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization, Eng. Abeer Alzuhair, the Head of the Standardization Department, Eng. Ghaida Alsabe, emphasized that intelligent transportation systems are essential for addressing environmental challenges and keeping up with modern needs. She added that hosting these meetings is an opportunity to build trust, share knowledge, and support progress.
She also said that the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization is proud to work with Princess Sumaya University for Technology to host this important event, which marks a major step in Jordan’s efforts to help shape the future of the international transportation sector.
