The number of research works published in the name of Princess Sumaya University for Technology exceeded 200 in 2019, rising from 45 in 2014, according to the global Scopus research databases. This is the greatest achievement in the University’s history and gives it top ranking in research at the national level, according to the QS World University Rankings, in terms of the ratio of research to faculty members. PSUT occupies the rank of sixteenth in the Arab world.
The President of PSUT, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, expressed his pleasure at this achievement, recognizing the hard work of the faculty and students and their tireless efforts. He emphasized that the achievement is the result of efforts made by the University’s administration, under the guidance of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of the Board of Trustees, to put into practice several pieces of legislation that stimulate researchers, and to achieve the University’s vision of advancing the level of scientific research and its progress in keeping pace with global trends.
The Dean of the King Abdullah I School for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at PSUT, Prof. Mohammad Sababheh, pointed out the importance of recognizing and encouraging researchers through the implementation of legislation to keep pace with global trends, such as encouraging the formation of research groups, supporting the attendance of international conferences, granting a sabbatical leave to faculty members, providing scholarships for graduate students, and attracting distinguished faculty and students.
Prof. Sababheh explained that the University’s focus on certain specializations and its focus on quality contributed to these accomplishments, and that the published research works cover a diverse range in terms of content in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Business. He pointed out that the University has focused on qualitative, applied research and publication in distinguished international journals.
Sabbaheh stated that PSUT is looking forward to further research achievements during the coming years, especially in areas that impact the local community, despite the importance of scientific research itself to improve the mental and cognitive level of societies.
Notably, a number of research achievements were made at PSUT in 2019, including: the inclusion of the Jordanian Journal of Computer and Information Technology in the Scopus Database, the holding of the Second International Conference on Modern Trends in Computing Sciences, amending the regulations for participating in conferences, approving the basis for financial rewards given to students for published research, listing funded research projects within the works accepted for the promotion purposes, and approving the system of research incentives that will come into effect this year.
