Princess Sumaya University for Technology has won Dell EMC’s “Envision the Future” Competition, which is organized by Dell in the Middle East and Africa. 253 projects from 23 countries were featured in the competition.

President of PSUT, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, congratulated the winning team, which comprised of Walaa Al-Dweik and Sarah Abu Adas, students from the Department of Software Engineering at the King Hussein School for Computing Sciences. He expressed his pride in this achievement, which brings honor to all Jordanian universities. The win comes with the start of the new academic year, and is notable because this is the first time the University has participated in the competition.

Prof. Al-Refai praised the ongoing efforts of the students and their supervisors in participating in national and international competitions which serve to support their academic careers and hone their practical skills. He highlighted the fact that these competitions provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their excellence, and promote a spirit of teamwork and fair competition. He also pointed out that this achievement is in line with the aspirations and vision of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, President of the University’s Board of Trustees.

The team's supervisor, Dr. Abdullah Darwish, pointed out that the win was the result of nine months of effort and hard work, and that the participation was due to the development of “Baby in Progress”, a mobile phone application which monitors the health of pregnant women and the stages of fetal development while giving valuable health advice to the parents. Dr. Abdullah announced that the winning team will receive their prize at GITEX Dubai, which will take place between the 6th and 10th of October.

This year, for the first time in the history of the competition, the organizing committee requested that teams prepare a presentation explaining the stages of application development. This presentation was made before the committee in order to facilitate direct dialogue with the team and allow the project to be discussed in full detail. “Envision the Future” is an annual graduation project competition for senior undergraduate students interested in smart applications in IT fields, such as computational science, the Internet of Things, and big data.
