Princess Sumaya University for Technology has added a new achievement to its excellent record by being placed first in the country and 15th in the Arab region with regard to the ratio of the number of published research works compared to the number of faculty members, according to the 2019 QS World University Rankings. Additionally, PSUT comes within the top 500 international universities regarding the number of international students, and within the top 275 universities regarding the number of foreign faculty members.
In addition, the University was ranked third in the nation, after the University of Jordan and the Jordan University of Science and Technology, and placed in the 800-1000 category internationally in the QS Ranking 2020. This distinguished result comes due to the ongoing support given by the University to its scientific research staff, whether in supporting their participation in international conferences, or providing incentives and assistance with procedures related to the publication of scientific research.
On this occasion, PSUT’s President, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, noted that, although this is the first time that the University has appeared in this classification, it has achieved a distinguished ranking, both internationally and at home, despite its small size and the absence of a medical school. Prof. Al-Refai asserted that every effort will continue to be made to place PSUT among the top 500 international universities in the coming years, working under the guidance and vision of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of the Board of Trustees.
As part of its policy to develop academic curricula that are compatible with modern teaching methods and the demands of the global labor market, the University has focused on the international dimension, forging numerous international cooperation agreements and networking with international universities in its bid to reach world status.
Notably, PSUT has previously distinguished itself by obtaining accreditation from the American Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET) for the majority of it programs in the Schools of Engineering and Computing Sciences. The School of Business Technology has also received positive reports from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), making PSUT the first among Jordanian universities to gain accreditation from these organizations, and also to gain European Union backing for 40 projects, five of which are under PSUT management.
Furthermore, the University has held first place for four consecutive years in the University Proficiency Exam, which is run by the Higher Education Accreditation Commission and taken by all Jordanian university students in their graduation semester. Teams from PSUT also won first place nationally in the Huawei ICT Skills Competition, going on to take third place in the international finals held in China.
The University also secured first place in the Arab world for the fourth consecutive year and fourth in the world during its participation in the global IEEEXtreme Programming Contest. It also won the title of Champion of the Middle East and Africa at the ACM Programming Competition.
It is worth noting that, since its inception, Princess Sumaya University for Technology has been exceptional among Jordanian private universities in supporting scientific research by granting its faculty members full-time sabbatical leave. This has served to increase the network of international cooperation available to researchers, which has brought a positive result in the University’s classification and outstanding status.
