PSUT honors national and international competition winners, their supervisors and School deans

The President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, bestowed the winners of national and international competitions with honors, thus giving recognition to the University's distinguished students and creating a strong bond between them and their University. This is in accordance with the PSUT administration’s policy of encouraging creative and innovative students, along with the winners of national and international competitions and their supervisors. The following are a sample of the University’s achievements: PSUT took 4th place in the world and 1st among the  Arab countries at the IEEEXtreme Competition 2018, and received the gold medal in the ACM Arab Collegiate Programming Contest (ACPC) 2018. Teams from the University also secured 82nd place in the world at IEEEXtreme 2018, as well as coming 1st and 2nd in the ACM 2018 Jordanian Collegiate Programming Contest and taking 2nd place among Jordanian universities and 16th among the Arab universities competing in the ACM’s ACPC 2018. A team from PSUT also won 1st place in the national round of the CFA Institute Research Challenge 2019. The University achieved excellent results at the International University Debating Championship held in the State of Qatar against a large field of competing international universities. PSUT also won 2nd place at the Huawei ICT Skills Competition, 1st place in the CodeRed Hacking Competition and at the Bsides Amman CTF 2019. Last but not least, PSUT obtained the top three places in the Distinguished Graduation Projects Exhibition arranged by the University as part of Careers Guidance Week.

Prof. Al-Refai pointed out that this awards ceremony represents PSUT students’ success stories, which deserve honoring, and that talented students are supported through the “Care of Gifted Students Office” within the Deanship of Admissions and Registration. The Office ensures that talented students receive the correct attention and support by providing a fertile environment for the development of their skills and abilities.

Prof. Al-Refai congratulated the winners and everyone who contributed to their achievements, stressing the University's keenness to realize the vision of the Chair of the University’s Board of Trustees, HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, in seeking to secure Jordan a place among developed countries, in the fields of science and technology. The aim is also to put forward a positive image of computer science both at home and abroad while enhancing the University's reputation through its plentiful accomplishments.

Prof. Al-Refai also expressed his pride in the excellence shown by the University and its students at the local and international levels, placing PSUT firmly in the ranks of the world’s prestigious universities. He promised the students, their supervisors and coaches, and the deans unparalleled support to maintain and add to the number of these achievements. Efforts will continue to be made to keep the University at its current high status.

PSUT graduate Iman Hailouz gave a presentation about her experience in the field of entrepreneurship, and how her studies at PSUT contributed to her current position. Ms. Hailouz recently won the Mohammad Bin Rashid Award for Arabic Language in the United Arab Emirates (2019). Her company, named Abjad, was considered among the top 100 startup companies in the Middle East for 2019. She was a recipient of an award under the  'EY Entrepreneur of The Year' program for 2018, and was selected as one of the top 20 entrepreneurs of 2017. Ms. Hailouz met with His Majesty the King during the World Economic Forum in the Dead Sea, and has gained numerous awards and achievements at the local and international levels.

At the close of the ceremony, Prof. Al-Refai presented honors to the winning students, their coaches and the deans of their faculties, in addition to honoring PSUT graduate Ms. Iman Hailouz.
