Under the patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of the University’s Board of Trustees, Princess Sumaya University for Technology celebrated the 20th anniversary of the day His Majesty King Abdullah II assumed his constitutional powers. The event was held on campus, with wide participation from both military and civilian parties. President of PSUT, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, asserted during the ceremony that the joy felt at the University was magnified since His Majesty's visit is still fresh in the memory of the PSUT family. On that occasion, His Majesty came to open the School that bears his great name, the King Abdullah II School of Engineering. The School offers exceptional quality programs at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels and serves to meet the needs of the local and international labor markets. During the King’s visit, the University was awarded the Order of Independence, First Class, for its excellent services to the ICT sector.
During his speech, Prof. Al-Refai said, "This is a day of great pride and glory. A beautiful, noble day, full of the sweet scent of memories: the anniversary of the Great Arab Revolt, the holiday dedicated to our brave army, and the anniversary of the coronation of our leader, King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein."
Prof. Al-Refai added that the Jordanian people rightly take pride in the leader of the journey, Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, who has managed to turn great challenges and major difficulties into opportunities and achievements that can be witnessed the length and breadth of the country. He talked about the royal vision for the national strategy, in particular the Seventh Discussion Paper, which gives a realistic picture that reflects His Majesty’s strong and genuine will to continue the good work already achieved.
Prof. Al-Refai highlighted Jordan’s achievements in the field of education, a matter which has received the King’s attention, pointing out that this sector has never been far from His Majesty's thoughts.
Closing his speech, Al-Refai thanked the military and civilian authorities for their participation in the solemn ceremony, asserting his pleasure and pride in the University, which bears the name of a great princess from the descendants of the noble Hashemite family, promising that sincere efforts towards progress and success would be ongoing.
Among the activities of the ceremony, a film was shown about the achievements of His Majesty the King, some of the University’s students gave poetry readings, there was a performance of a theatrical operetta, and student Ghaith Samarin performed some national songs. Also, Amanat Amman Folklore Troupe and the University’s troupe both gave dabkeh performances, and the poem “You fulfilled your promise, O King of Hearts” was sung. There was also a signals display, and the musical band of the Public Security Forces put on a display which was met with great approval by the audience.
After the ceremony, guests and visitors toured the Achievements Display and the exhibition of tanks.
