The President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, met with faculty members joining the University at the start of the 2019/20 academic year during a three-day induction meeting organized by PSUT’s Center for Quality Assurance and Accreditation.
Prof. Al-Refai welcomed the new faculty members and gave a summary of the University’s most prominent achievements. He also talked about PSUT’s future plans for developing quality programs to serve the Kingdom and the region. He stressed the importance of promoting scientific research and getting the resulting works published in renowned international journals, in addition to supporting students and encouraging their participation in local and international scientific conferences.
Al-Refai stressed the need to work to strengthen networking with industry in order to reduce the gap with the education sector, citing the success stories already provided by the University in this area. He pointed to the efficacy of cooperation with the Royal Scientific Society in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation, and lending backing to the ideas proffered by students and faculty members in order to transform them into projects that provide scientific solutions to issues and societal problems.
Al-Refai highlighted the fact that attracting highly qualified faculty members is a crucial factor that enables the University to fully perform its role. He also pointed out the importance of sending both undergraduate and Master’s students abroad and providing financial support for that, as well as attracting foreign students through exchange programs, and providing support for faculty members to participate in scientific conferences.
The Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Arafat Awajan, gave a presentation covering the rules and regulations, explaining the faculty member’s rights and duties with regard to leave, promotion and confirmation, as well as the conditions for receiving support for scientific research.
Dr. Ghaith Al-Rabadi, Vice President for Research and Development, spoke about the importance of receiving support for research projects from local and international bodies, pointing to new strategies in motivating the academic staff to participate in the preparation of research proposals.
The Director of the Center for Quality Assurance and Accreditation, Dr. George Sammour, said that the program, which was organized for the third consecutive year, contains lectures discussing themes such as: joint research projects between the University and the RSS, El Hassan Business Park, local and international academic accreditation, the University’s rules and regulations, the mechanism for receiving backing for scientific research, faculty/student interactions, strategic planning, the e-learning system, library services, database research strategies, human resource services, online registration services, EU grant programs and European projects, and cultural exchange for students and faculty.
The meeting was attended by the vice presidents, the deans of the Schools and the heads of academic departments. Acting on behalf of the President, Dr. Rabadi concluded the meeting by presenting certificates of appreciation to the participants.
