The President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, stated that the University is launching itself strongly onto the international scene via the platforms of its major achievements, armed with a competitive outlook characterized by outstanding leadership and excellence.

During his regular meeting with faculty members, which was also attended by the University’s vice presidents and deans, Prof. Al-Refai added that the solid base of successes recorded during the University’s history enables it to stand with confidence among the ranks of the most prestigious international universities.

Al-Refai praised the great motivation inspired by HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of the University's Board of Trustees, stressing that her tireless interest and patronage formed the most significant influence on the University's success and excellence.

Al-Refai commended the University’s experience in e-learning, thanking the faculty members for their perseverance and the vital role they play in making it succeed by overcoming all its obstacles. He stated that he was looking forward to renewed efforts to enhance the University’s pioneering approach in this field.

Al-Refai reviewed the University’s future plans, most notable of which is the effort to achieve high positions in international university rankings. The University is also intending to create PhD programs in Electrical Engineering and Business Administration, in addition to a Master's in e-Marketing and another in Health Information Technology. It aims to offer quality online programs at the undergraduate and Master's levels, and is always working to build real partnerships with local and international institutions and universities.

Al-Refai also emphasized the need to lend the utmost importance to scientific research, as it represents a distinguishing factor in the University’s record locally, regionally and internationally, as he put it.

The President also congratulated faculty members Prof. Ahmad Hiasat and Prof. Mohammad Sababheh for their success in making the list of the best 2% of researchers in the world. Congratulations were also offered to the Dean of the King Abdullah II School of Engineering, Dr. Belal Sababha and Dr. Yazan Al-Qudah for their recent patent, registered in the name of PSUT with the US Patent and Trademark Office, for an innovation that serves the auto industry and smart cities.

Al-Refai called for the need to actively participate in the University’s activities and events organized in celebration of Jordan’s centenary, indicating that PSUT is on the verge of holding a national conference presenting the country’s progress in the technological field.

At the close of the meeting, in which he reviewed the University's successes in 2020, the President congratulated the great efforts of the entire body of faculty, administrative staff and students, before receiving comments from the faculty members.

Notably, during the past year, and despite the circumstances of the Coronavirus pandemic, the University achieved unprecedented successes, such as being awarded five stars in all categories of the international QS Stars University Ratings. This made PSUT the first Jordanian university to obtain this evaluation without going through its gradual stages, from three stars to five, and the first in the region to be awarded five stars for each of the evaluation categories.

PSUT was also the first in the history of Jordanian universities to obtain AACSB international accreditation, making it one of only 2% of the world's universities outside the USA to obtain this accreditation. With this, all of the University’s Schools now hold accreditation from US organizations.

PSUT also achieved first place locally, for the third consecutive year, in the QS Arab University Rankings 2021, being placed 15th in the Arab world regarding the ratio of published research papers to each faculty member.

The University also grabbed second and third prizes from the Crown Prince’s Award for Best Government Service Application, in its first session, which was open to nearly 300,000 students from Jordanian universities.

PSUT ranked first in the world in the annual IEEEXtreme Programming Competition, surpassing the most prestigious international universities, such as MIT, University of Illinois, McGill University of Canada, University of California – Berkeley. PSUT students also led a Jordanian team to win first place globally in the Huawei ICT Skills Competition, which was contested by teams from 39 countries.
