The President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology spoke at the opening ceremony for the final conference regarding the European OpenMed project which aims at supporting and enabling the use of Open Learning resources. The conference, held in Rome, was also attended by the Jordanian Ambassador to Italy, HE. Mr. Fayiz Khoury, and other heads and representatives of participating universities. The President of PSUT, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, gave a speech about the current situation regarding the use of Open Learning resources in the Kingdom, as well as the benefits of using online learning tools in Jordanian universities and the official policies currently in place. He also made a presentation of PSUT’s possibilities and achievements in the field of online teaching and related success stories to an audience made up of academic delegations from seven participating countries from around the Mediterranean Basin.
In another setting, President Al-Refai and the accompanying delegation met with the Rector of UNINETTUNO, Prof. Maria Garito, in addition to a number of Deans and departmental heads from the university. During the meeting, they discussed possible avenues of cooperation between the two universities with a view to developing online learning and blended learning platforms.
Also, a meeting was held between President Al-Refai and the Director of UNIMED, Mr. Marcello Salisi. Also present was Dr. Adiy Tweissi, Director of PSUT’s e-Learning Center. An agreement was reached to proceed with new pioneering academic projects which will bring about a marked change in the field of online and blended learning. It was also agreed that efforts would be increased in the development of international partnerships to include the top expertise available in Jordan and the other Mediterranean Basin countries.
In a further effort to strengthen academic cooperation between Jordan and Italy, President Al-Refai met with the Jordanian Ambassador to Italy, HE. Mr. Fayiz Khoury. The Jordanian Ambassador called for a meeting that included the representatives of Jordanian and Italian universities in order to arrange academic collaboration, investment in Jordanian human resources, and the continuation of international academic work aimed at benefitting and promoting the success of the two friendly countries which share a deep-rooted history. It was also agreed that the two parties should start work on joint academic projects and that Memoranda of Understanding should be arranged to seal the agreement.
