In a comfortable, friendly atmosphere, for the second time in its history, Princess Sumaya University for Technology showed its unique excellence and ability to depart from the norm when Mays Abu Shamat, a third year student, was voted in as Student Council President in the 2018/2019 elections. Mais competed with 11 other students from the King Talal School of Business Technology, winning a total of 200 votes to join the new council of 17 students, 6 of whom are female. This is the second time that the University’s Student Council is headed by a female student.
PSUT is proud of the fact that up to 46% of students entering the University’s programs are females, with up to 29% of students in the King Abdullah II School of Engineering, 42% in the King Hussein School of Computing Sciences, and 57% in the King Talal School of Business Technology.
The Chair of PSUT’s Board of Trustees, HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan and the University's administration strongly believe that women have a large role to play in the labor market, in all sectors, but especially the ICT sector. Acting upon this belief, the University has promoted the participation of women in science, helping them to have their voices heard regarding their ideas and proposals to improve and stabilize the presence of women in the fields of Engineering, IT and Business. In addition, PSUT encourages the participation of female students in academic and extracurricular activities, applauding their great results and accomplishments at both the local and regional levels.
