The Higher Education Council has decided to give accreditation to the Bachelor of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence to be taught at Princess Sumaya University for Technology, after the completion of the practical frameworks for its launch.
PSUT's President, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, expressed his pleasure in this new achievement, stressing that the decision was in line with the University's approach of excellence and leadership and in fulfillment of the aspirations of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan.
Al-Refai added that the program, the first of its kind in Jordan, aims to provide students with the necessary knowledge for development and creativity, and to enhance their ability to work effectively within a team, enabling them to adopt continuous self-learning, whilst learning new techniques and methods to further enhance their skills.
Acting Dean of the King Hussein School of Computing Sciences, Dr. Mustafa Al-Fayoumi, pointed out that the study plan of the program was designed on the basis of an intensive study of the needs of the labor market globally, regionally and locally, in addition to observing international standards and the study plans and curricula followed by a number of international universities.
Al-Fayoumi said that the plan, which was jointly prepared by parties from major companies and institutions, has been evaluated and judged by several internal and external bodies to be an outstanding plan. The authors of the plan drew heavily upon the experience gained by the University since it launched its Master's program in Data Science two years ago, which has been met with great success.
Al-Fayoumi stressed that the program qualifies the participants to deal with Big Data, to analyze it statistically, and to deduce from it information, which helps in making precise, scientifically-backed decisions. Furthermore, he pointed out that some graduates of the School, which has seen a great rise in the numbers of students and faculty members, the quality of teaching and the application of quality standards, occupy important positions in the community and contribute to the national development process.
The King Hussein School of Computing Sciences offers four undergraduate programs (Computer Science, Computer Graphics and Animation, Software Engineering, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence) and four Master's programs (Computer Science, Information Systems Security and Digital Criminology, Data Science, and Enterprise Systems Engineering run in cooperation with the German-Jordanian University), as well as a PhD in Computer Science.
In recent years, data science and artificial intelligence has become the most advanced specialization in the world. Most developed countries, in light of the information and data revolution, have taken a number of measures by encouraging educational institutions to pay attention to vocational and university education specializing in data science and artificial intelligence.
The concept of data science, a specialization which is expected to witness an increased demand in the coming years, in line with the expected surge in digital data volume, includes a range of methods, processes, systems and software tools available to enhance the capabilities of specialists, making it one of the most sought after jobs of the future.
