The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)
In order to advance along the path of leadership and excellence, Princess Sumaya University for Technology worked to obtain the AACSB international accreditation, which represents the highest accreditation institution for business schools in the world. Upon receiving the accreditation, the University became one of 5% of the world's universities to be accredited, and one of only 2% of universities outside the USA. Thus, all of PSUT’s Schools have achieved international accreditation.
PSUT is the first and only university in Jordan to have received AACSB accreditation for its majors. Seeing that the entire range of specializations at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels obtained this accreditation, PSUT’s School of Business Technology made enormous strides to meet the standards of this accreditation in terms of reformulating the School’s mission, goals and strategic plan, improving learning outcomes, formulating policies and measurement systems in teaching and learning, scientific research, academic promotion, governance, academic guidance, and community service. We also made efforts to update the study plans in line with the requirements of the labor market to enable the student to find more and better opportunities in the local and international labor market.
The School’s receipt of the AACSB international accreditation places it in the ranks of high-quality business schools around the world, and makes it a magnet for business and similar schools in international universities. This broadens the fields of cooperation and puts the outputs, in the form of the School’s graduates, in high demand in the public and private sectors of the labor market. The accreditation also makes it easier for graduates to obtain admission for postgraduate studies in the best international universities, in addition to attracting high-level teaching faculty.
About the Accreditation:
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) was established in 1916 and is the oldest global accreditation body for business schools that offer undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD programs in the fields of business administration and accounting. The AACSB accreditation is a sign of excellence in teaching business administration programs, and less than five percent of business schools in the world have obtained this accreditation. Obtaining and maintaining accreditation brings about an accurate internal review, evaluation and development process. The accreditation criteria require the application of a plan based on the school’s vision and mission to achieve quality standards in order to ensure a high quality educational environment, the existence of innovative programs, and effective participation with the industrial sector. Maintaining this accreditation also requires that other business schools undertake a review process every five years to ensure the continuous development of the accredited school.
Why is AACSB accreditation considered important?
AACSB accreditation contributes to promoting and developing programs and increasing employment opportunities for graduates of the School inside and outside the Kingdom, in addition to rendering the School’s programs accredited in many academic institutions worldwide. Therefore:
- Accreditation assists students and their parents in choosing the appropriate specialization.
- Accreditation gives companies and employers the opportunity to choose and employ graduates in the knowledge that these graduates have been taught the specialization according to international standards.
- Registrars and the bodies that issue licenses and certificates can use the accreditation to select applicants for these licenses and certificates.
- Accreditation helps universities and departments in setting up an organized mechanism to assess and develop the quality of their programs.
