The halls of the Deanship of Admissions and Registration at Princess Sumaya University for Technology are witnessing a great turnout by high school graduates to enroll for the academic year 2020/2021. Remarkably, 19 students who obtained 100% were among those who applied and were accepted in the first batch that was announced a few days ago.
PSUT’s President Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai expressed his satisfaction at the confidence displayed by the students and their families in the University’s outcomes and status, and the successes it has achieved, describing this turnout as a product of the University’s excellence and the good reputation of its graduates.
The President stated that PSUT, under the guidance of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of the University's Board of Trustees, offers specializations that meet the needs of the new market and builds partnerships with major international educational institutions that enrich its outcomes. Consequently, nearly 90% of the University’s graduates find employment opportunities within the first six months of their graduation.
Al-Refai believes that the positive change in the pattern of societal thinking, which is represented in the absence of a rush to traditional disciplines, bodes well, and makes qualitative university education an investment in the future that will boost the country's economy.
The Dean of Admissions and Registration, Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Al-Saidi, said that among the first batch of admissions were 52 students with an average of 99% and above, 296 students above 95%, and 650 students above 90%. The greatest interest came for the two majors of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and e-Marketing and Social Media.
Al-Saidi explained that PSUT has its own system for accepting students. The acceptance rate is approximately only 30% of applicants, and the University's Schools in all disciplines hold an entrance examination followed by a personal interview for all candidates.
New student Dana Hani Al-Taher, who achieved an average of 100%, expressed her great joy at joining PSUT, and said that she has been following the University’s achievements and successes for a long time, along with the care, attention and training it provides to its students. She added that the Computer Science major that she has chosen has been her goal since childhood and that this is her personal decision, with the encouragement of her family. She believes that this will allow her to serve her community, and confirmed that what encouraged her most was the interview with the PSUT faculty members.
The University is currently striving in the next phase towards competition at the international level, obtaining advanced positions in international university rankings, creating a Center of Excellence in Cyber Security, launching PhD programs in Electrical Engineering and Business Administration, and other qualitative “remote” programs at both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. It is also working to increase the number of partnerships with the private sector, raise the proportion of graduate students, and strengthen the foundations of scientific research.
Moreover, all of PSUT’s Schools have obtained the two American accreditations: ABET and AACSB. The University won second and third places in the Crown Prince Award for Best Government Service Application for the year 2020 and, according to the QS World Rankings 2020, PSUT ranked first in Jordan and 16th in the Arab region regarding the ratio of the number of scientific research works published compared to the number of faculty members.
PSUT has also created quality programs, unique within Jordan, such as e-Marketing and Social Media, Computer Graphics and Animation, Network and Information Security Engineering, Electrical Power and Energy Engineering, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and Cyber Security at the undergraduate level. At the Master's level, the University offers programs in Data Science, Information Systems Security and Digital Criminology, Enterprise Systems Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Business Analysis, Engineering Management, and Accounting in partnership with the University of Arizona in the USA, Intelligent and Computer Systems Engineering, and a PhD program in Computer Science. Additionally, PSUT students have received international and local awards in various academic, cultural and sports forums.
