A delegation from the Discovery Partners Institute (USA) visits PSUT to discuss cooperation in entrepreneurship and innovation
A delegation from the Discovery Partners Institute (DPI) visited Princess Sumaya University for Technology to explore channels of cooperation between the DPI and the University in several areas, including teaching, scientific research, technological innovation and entrepreneurship. This comes as part of the cooperation program currently in place between Jordan and the state of Illinois, known as the Inspire Jordan Program.
The two parties discussed means of advancing academic and research cooperation in the field of technological innovation and entrepreneurship. The American delegation meeting with PSUT’s President Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, was made up of Vice President for Economic Development and Innovation at the University of Illinois System, Professor Edward Seidel, Professor of Medicine Dr. Nadera Sweis, and Associate Vice Chancellor for Corporate Relations and Economic Development, Professor Pradeep Khanna. Also in attendance were PSUT Vice President, Dr. Arafat Awajan, a number of the University’s Deans, the technology advisor to the President of the Royal Scientific Society, Dr. Nabeel Al-Fayoumi, and Executive Chairman of El Hassan Business Park, Mr. Omar Hamarneh.
PSUT’s President, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Refai, emphasized the University's keenness to provide a suitable environment for carrying out applied scientific research that serves the purposes of comprehensive national development, as well as opening channels of communication with international universities. These aims are part of the University’s policy to join the ranks of the top international universities, under the wise guidance of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of the University’s Board of Trustees, by making ongoing efforts to keep abreast of world developments to create a generation of future leaders which is geared to entrepreneurial activity.
Prof. Al-Refai indicated the University's focus on supporting entrepreneurship and innovation by introducing distinctive and unique disciplines that link business management to entrepreneurship. He particularly pointed out the role of the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship at the University, which was founded in 2004. Much work is carried out in collaboration with El Hassan Business Park and the business incubators at the Royal Scientific Society where support is given to the entrepreneurial ideas of students and faculty members to develop and convert them into projects that provide scientific and societal solutions to issues and problems in various scientific and social arenas.
Speaking on behalf of the visiting delegation, Prof. Edward Seidel, Vice President for Economic Development and Innovation at the University of Illinois, expressed his admiration for PSUT’s excellent international reputation, gained through its research and academic cooperation endeavors with the world's strongest universities and the scholarship of its students and faculty members.
