GMBA Aims


Given the complexity of management and managing, the Global MBA focuses on developing managers who understand the complexity of the organisational and business environment, who are able to manage effectively within this complexity and who are capable of operating across functional boundaries and at a strategic level. The programme aims to provide a comprehensive grounding in general management theory and focuses particularly on the relationship between theory and practice and the application of theory to organisational situations.

The programme blends a number of functional subjects together in order to enhance understanding of complex problems and develop the capabilities required to deal with complexity.  By the end of the programme, successful students will demonstrate the following:

a) An understanding of theory and practice in relation to organisations, their management and the environment in which they operate. 

b) The ability to think holistically and across functional boundaries, and to view organisational problems and issues from a strategic viewpoint.

c) When presented with complex business or research situations (real or simulated) to be able to use appropriate literature, concepts, theory and tools to understand the situation, analyse the problem and generate viable solutions.

d)     The ability to design effective organisational intervention in new and unfamiliar circumstances.

e) The understanding and skills necessary to contribute to improvement and change within organisations.

f) Sensitive to the impact of managerial and organisational decisions on individuals, groups, organisations and the operating environment.

g) A critical approach in the application of management theory and practice, enhancing their understanding through evaluation and reflection.

h)   Effective communication skills.

i) The ability to meaningfully contribute to team-based activities.

j) The skills necessary for effective lifelong learning and personal development.
